Monday:

We will begin with a warm-up activity on Pear Deck. Students will revise their analysis of "The Lottery".  We will review a few student sample analyses in preparation for students revising their own work. Students will enroll in turnitin.com: Class ID: 25631260 Enrollment Key: u2rocks. When students finish revising analysis, they will upload to turnitin.com.  Students will then read "My Purple House" by Sandra Cisneros to gain a sense of her persona before reading her novel, The House on Mango Street. Students will then answer the following questions verbally: 1) What does Cisneros' research reveal about the view citizens of San Antonio have about Los Tejanos? 2) Is Cisneros' justification for her house's color fair? 3) What does this article reveal about Cisneros' character? 

Homework: Revision for "The Lottery" analysis due on Friday at 5:00 p.m. Students will highlight all changes on the final draft--use one color for added content and one color for grammar, punctuation, and grammar. Student will upload their analysis to turnitin.com. Sample Lottery paragraph: click HERE.

Students will complete a warm-up activity. We will move onto the reading of The House on Mango Street.  We will discuss the structure of the novel as well as the type of analysis they will accomplish with this story. Students will work with the S.E.A. method (Statement, Evidence, & Analysis). They will work with a set of questions to be answered for each chapter of the novel. We will read the first three chapters and answer questions for each reading. 

Homework: Finish revising "The Lottery" analysis, including highlighting. Upload to turnitin.com and type "Done" in Canvas and submit

Students will meet on Zoom where we will discuss platforms to be used and how to navigate my Canvas pages. Students will access a Google Form on which they will check in for attendance--the following days for attendance will take place as students are given access to the Zoom session for the day.

We will continue our reading of The House on Mango Street. Student will work with the following vignettes and answering questions: "My Name", "Cathy Queen of Cats", and "Our Good Day". After discussing key concepts in each vignette, students will develop their own poetic vignette, using a Name Frame  Poem outline. 

Homework: Students will finish responding to any questions not completed in class.  Students will develop their Name Frame Poem--due Friday at 5:00pm.

Students will return to HOMS. We will tackle "Laughter" and "Gil's Furniture Bought & Sold".  Students will receive one minute to find a treasured momento that symbolizes an important moment in their life. Students will be called on to share their item and its significance. This is all in preparation for developing an Autobiographical Essay. Students will quickwrite for 10 minutes, pulling out all details they can recall from the memory, focusing on sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell. We will also incorporate one simile, one metaphor, one onomatopoeia, and one personification. 

Homework: Students will set aside their work with their memory to focus on finishing the Name Frame Poem, which must be uploaded to Canvas to receive a submission and score for completion.

We will then move on to our next story. We will read "The Sniper" by Liam O'Flaherty. Students will continue with suspense and focus on pulling quotes from the story and correctly citing. We will create a Suspense Chart pertaining to the story.  

Homework: Finish the Dramatic Structure Reading Response by Thursday at 8:05am. Start working on the "Sniper" Suspense Chart--due Friday at 5:00 p.m.

Students Report. Students will begin the period with a survey. Then we will move into a quick activity--say it in 6. While we will discuss the syllabus slightly, we will spend more time going over my website and Canvas, looking at the Homepage, the Calendar, and the "To Do" list. Students will begin writing their Freshmen Letter to Senior Self.

Homework: Check out the website: mrsv.us.com. Look over Canvas and locate your Outlook Mail.

Thursday: 

We will then move into reading an article from ABC News: click HERE (PDF version--click HERE) for article. Students will read and reflect on article's content: focusing on format, purpose, and key evidence. We will do a quick visual image symbolic analysis. 

We will then discuss a topic for a sample essay. Students will type an MLA formatted 500+ word essay evaluating a role s/he/they perform in their life--this will be due on Tuesday morning--upload to Canvas.

Homework: Begin working on your Evaluation essay. Refer to your MLA format (click here) paper given in class. 

Friday:

Students will take notes on elements of plot (Dramatic Structure Reading Response--click HERE for instructions) and suspense in preparation for reading "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell (click HERE for story link and HERE for audio). Students will make note of key aspects of the two main characters in the short story in preparation of a writing assignment for the end of their reading. They will also make note of all plot details. 

Homework: Continue working on the Evaluation essay--Check Canvas for prompt. Use the MLA formatting sheet as you type. Check Canvas for both MLA format and essay topic.

Week of 8-15-22 through 8-19-22 

Monday: 

We will then enroll in Remind. Students will upload their Evaluation Essay at the beginning of the period. I will take a volunteer student to show all peers how to upload using "icloud submission". We will continue reading "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell. Students will have a chance to ask questions about the Dramatic Structure Reading Response that is due on Friday on Canvas.

We will finish reading and discussing "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell. Students will work on Reading Response for the remainder of the period.

Thursday: 

Students will return to "The Most Dangerous Game" where we will look closely at the decision Rainsford makes at the end of the story. Students will compose a brief one-page argument to determine whether Rainsford made the best decision to "end" the game with General Zaroff. Students may work on Reading Response due tomorrow or work on the one-page opening argument for the Rainsford court case--due Tuesday. Use MLA format for one-page argument.vas.

Homework: Finish Dramatic Structure Reading Response and upload to Canvas. 

Friday:

Students will read and discuss "The Sniper" by Liam O'Flaherty and its suspense elements. Students will develop a Suspense Chart where they will work with properly citing quotes from a text. Students need to pick 5 quotes, properly cited, that capture elements of suspense to be charted. 

Homework: Work on MLA formatted one-page opening argument for Rainsford court case--due on Tuesday on Canvas.

Monday: 

We will head to the library for checking out Independent Reading books for the first quarter. Students will conduct a book tasting in order to get a sense of which books they would have the most interest in.

Homework: Students should finish their persuasive one-page argument--due tomorrow on Canvas. The paper should be MLA format, using reasoning and evidence to determine character's guilt or innocence--at least two parenthetically cited quotes required.  The argument should be a summation of why ethically the character should be acquitted or sentenced for his crime.(Final Draft) with highlighted changes--due Friday, May 

Tuesday: 

SSR. Students will read their last short story, "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson. We will unpack some terms pertinent to the story: patriarchy, scapegoating, conforming, tradition, and culture. 

Homework: Students will finish their Suspense Chart. For the chart, use color; check grammar, punctuation, and spelling; check quote; be sure to have an image for each event on the chart; each bar on the graph should have a different color; their should be 5 correctly cited parenthetical citations in chronological order.

Wednesday: 

SSR. We will then analyze the choice Jackson made in Tessie and placing her as the "winner" of the annual lottery. Students will determine why Jackson chose to give Tessie Hutchinson the black dot and what this says about the society in which Tessie lives. We will begin an MLA formatted Google Doc for our paragraph literary analysis.

Homework: Students will type up their "Lottery" analysis on Google Docs in MLA format--it is only a paragraph, containing a hook, background info, a thesis, supported by two parenthetically cited quotes and thorough analysis--due Friday.

Thursday: 

SSR. Students will continue working on "The Lottery" analysis paragraph. Be sure that it is typed in MLA format and consists of the outline components noted on Canvas. Incorporate two parenthetically cited quotes as support.vas.

Homework: Finish typing up "Lottery" analysis on Google Docs in MLA format and upload to Canvas. 

Friday:

Begin with a peer edit. Students will move toward our first novel of the year--The House on Mango Street. Students will read an article, "My Purple House", in which they will garner an idea about the type of person and writer Sandra Cisneros, the author of House, is. They will read the article and answer the following questions: 1. What purpose does Sandra Cisneros have in writing this article? 2. What insight does this article give to help us understand Sandra Cisneros as a person? 

Homework: Students should finish their responses from class.

Tuesday: 

SSR. Students will read "Laughter" and "Gil's Furniture Bought & Sold" in HOMS. Students will work with the S.E.A. method (Statement, Evidence, & Analysis) on both chapter responses. We will focus on "Laughter" and the nature of Cisneros' comparison between the sets of sisters. Students will pick a member of their family for which they have commonalities and differences.  

Homework: Students will work on their Imitative Vignette for "Laughter", comparing themselves and a family member, using sensory descriptive language.  Students need to have the following criteria: a simile, a metaphor, a personfication, at least one similarity, and at least one difference. Bring an object (by Friday) from home that represents a memory.

Wednesday: 

SSR. Students will continue work HOMS, but we will look at different perspectives of home. We will read a packet of excerpts of individuals discussing what home means to them in preparation for a short creative writing piece in which students write about one facet of home to them: for example, the soccer field; the beach; the family room of their home; the kitchen, cooking with a family member; their own bedroom; etc. After students listen to these details of home, they will take their own approach, incorporating sensory descriptive language as they go.

Homework: Work on Imitative Vignette for "Laughter". Bring an object from home by Friday.

Thursday: 

SSR. Students will clarify any details needed for their home poem--students will work in class for part of the period. We will continue reading HOMS and answering questions for vignettes in HOMS: "Meme Ortiz" and "Louie, His Cousin, & Other Cousin".vas.

Homework: Finish typing up Imitative Vignette for "Laughter" and upload to Canvas. Bring an object that represents a memory to class tomorrow. 

Friday:

Students will share their object they brought to class that represents a memory for them. Students will write a reflection on the memory they shared--just a quickwrite for today.

Monday: 

SSR. Students will work with ideas related to their memory--they will unpack important details, focusing on one specific moment from that memory to explain the impact and the importance of what the student learned. Students will need to pull in all five senses for descriptive detail; they must have at least one of each of the following: simile, metaphor, personification, and onomatopeoia. Read a few example essays in class.

Homework: Work on Home Poem response, including five sensory descriptive details and one of each of the following: simile, metaphor, and personification--Due Wednesday. 

Tuesday: 

SSR. Students will read "Marin", "Those Who Don't", and "There Was an Old Woman..." in HOMS. Students will work with the S.E.A. method (Statement, Evidence, & Analysis) on all chapter responses.   

Homework: Students will finish Home Poem response and upload to Canvas.

Wednesday: 

SSR. Students will address progress on their Autobiographical essay. We will discuss unpacking details and incorporating sensory details that bring their writing to life. We will return to HOMS and read "Alicia Who Sees Mice". We will begin discussing key roles that we see women in this novel being push towards and who fits.

Homework: Work on Autobiographical Essay--due Friday, September 23 on Canvas.

Thursday: 

SSR. Students will read "Darius and the Cloud" and "And Some More". Students will continue answering questions in S.E.A method for each chapter. We will return to the Autobiographical essay to see if students have questions.vas.

Friday:

Students will work on HOMS Q's while reading "The Family of Little Feet" and "A Rice Sandwich". We will add characters and quotes to our Female Archetype chart. We will return to the Autobiographical essay.

Monday: 

SSR. Students will answer questions for "And Some More" in S.E.A. method. Students will work on HOMS Q's while reading "The Family of Little Feet" and "A Rice Sandwich". We will add characters and quotes to our Female Archetype chart. We will return to the Autobiographical essay.

Homework: Continue work on the Autobiographical essay--highlight at least one of each of the following with one color: sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell; highlight at least one of each of the following in a different color: simile, metaphor, personification, and onomatopoeia--due Thursday. 

Tuesday: 

SSR. Then we will read and answer questions for "Chanclas" and "Hips" in HOMS. The students will have finished the first half of the book at this point. They will jigsaw the reading for the rest of the book and present a vignette to the class, which we will start tomorrow.   

Homework: Students will continue working on the Autobiographical essay and upload to Canvas by Thursday.

Wednesday: 

SSR. Students will go over the Jigsaw Group Project/Presentation. Students will form groups of 5 or 6 people. They will be assigned a group of vignettes to read and present. Once students are assigned the vignettes, they will start reading through them together and discussing their significance.

Homework: Work on Autobiographical Essay--due tomorrow on Canvas.

Thursday: 

SSR. Students will conduct a peer edit, using the peer edit option on Canvas.vas.

Homework: Students will begin revising a final draft for their autobiographical incident essay. Students will use a different color than they have used for the figurative language and sensory detail to show changes they made from the rough draft to the final. 

Friday:

Students will finish discussing the vignettes their group was assigned. They will determine the theme, key quote, key ideas, conflict, and possible female archetype that may be present in the chapters. They will also brainstorm significant symbolic images. 

Homework: Read from your Independent Reading book, work on Autobiographical final draft, or work on Jigsaw Project.

Week of 9-26-22 through 9-30-22

Monday: 

SSR. Students will finish discussing the vignettes their group was assigned. They will determine the theme, key quote, key ideas, conflict, and possible female archetype that may be present in the chapters. They will also brainstorm significant symbolic images. Designate a leader. This person will start a slide show to share with the group.

Homework: Continue revising the Autobiographical essay--highlight at least one of each of the following with one color: sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell; highlight at least one of each of the following in a different color: simile, metaphor, personification, and onomatopoeia. Highlight with a different color all changes made from the original draft to the final--due Thursday. 

Tuesday: 

SSR. Then we will return to the group work for the Jigsaw Project. Students will assign vignettes to each member of the group.  Based upon notes from yesterday, students will start putting together details on their assigned vignette.  

Homework: Students will continue working on final draft of the Autobiographical essay and reupload to Canvas by Thursday.

Wednesday: 

SSR. Students will add images to their slide show and finalize all touches to their visual detail for the presentation. Students will practice delivery of their vignette in preparation for the presentation. 

Homework: Work on final draft of Autobiographical Essay--due tomorrow on Canvas.

Thursday: 

SSR. Students will practice delivery a couple of times with their group. Then they will come up and present their details of their vignette to the class. Go over the essay prompt for HOMS. Deliver Jigsaw presentations.vas.

Students will continue delivery of Jigsaw presentations. Students will note key quotes for female archetypes in HOMS.

Monday:

Homework: Finish Reading Independent Reading book.

Tuesday: 

Students will discuss the Independent Reading assignments. They may either complete a two-page essay or a slide show presentation for their assignment. Students will then develop their first archetypal paragraph for the HOMS essay. We will look at and discuss sample paragraph responses before their begin their own drafts. .

Homework: Students should begin working on the Independent Reading assignment, due on Wednesday, October 19th. Continue drafting body paragraph: check parenthetical citation, check context of including quote (did you embed it), check analysis of the quote (did you discuss how the evidence gives insight into the way women are expected to fall into this role and how the character feels about being in this role).

Wednesday: 

SSR. Students will continue developing their next two body paragraphs, focusing on two more archetypes. Each body paragraph (of which there are 3 archetypes) must provide at least two supporting pieces of evidence, parenthetically cited; students should follow S.E.A. method in developing their analysis. At least two sentences in analysis needed for each quote. Each quote needs to be embedded or  requires context of the what is happening in the novel. 

Homework: Finish up the drafting of these two body paragraphs.

Thursday: 

SSR. Students should start determining which archetype they will want to discuss in their last body paragraph about today's women. Students need to include specific examples from personal experience and/or observations, or they may include examples from pop culture (movies, TV shows, TikTok).

Homework: Students should finish their essay entirely by Monday and upload to Canvas. 

Friday:

Students will begin working with ideas for Fahrenheit 451 by reading "There Will Come Soft Rains" by Ray Bradbury. Audio recording (click HERE). Students will practice annotating their text properly, also in preparation for reading Fahrenheit.

Homework: Students will finish their whole HOMS essay and upload to Canvas.

Monday: 

SSR. Students will practice delivery a couple of times with their group. Then they will come up and present their details of their vignette to the class. Go over the essay prompt for HOMS. Deliver Jigsaw presentations.

Homework: Read Independent Reading book. 

Tuesday: 

SSR. Students will continue delivery of Jigsaw presentations. Students will note key quotes for female archetypes in HOMS.  

Homework: Read Independent Reading book.

Wednesday: 

SSR. Then we will return to presentations and finish. Students will finish making notes on key female archetypes. Students should start determining which female archetypes they will want to discuss in their essay. 

Homework: Students should narrow down which 3 archetypes on which they would like to focus their essay and which 2 characters they wish to include for each archetype.

Thursday: 

SSR. Students will begin working on the thesis, three statements for the archetypes, and picking which quotes they will use to support these statements.vas.

Homework: Work on finishing Independent Reading book. Students will finish introduction, three statements, and cited quotes they will use as support.

Friday:

Students will begin writing their body paragraphs for the essay, focusing on one archteype per paragraph and two characters per archetype--each character needs to be captured with a quote, parenthetically cited. 

Homework: Students will finish typing their paragraphs at home for all three archetypes.  They must include two quotes per paragraph discussing two separate characters that are forced or who choose these roles based upon expectations of their community.

Monday: 

We will conduct a peer review of the HOMS essay. Students may then work on their Independent Reading assignment or HOMS essay revision. 

Homework: Finish Independent Reading assignment by Wednesday. Two-page paper should be uploaded to Canvas, or if you are presenting slides, share slides with myvillarancho@gmail.com. Students will revise their HOMS essay by Friday and upload onto Canvas. Students should highlight all added information or revised sentences and paragraphs to show changes from the original to the final.

Tuesday: 

Students should finish their Independent Reading assignment by tomorrow: a presentation or a paper. Students will read from Commonlit.org, a site we will use throughout the year. Students will read a letter by Kurt Vonnegut and answer the multiple choice questions in relation. Then we will discuss and even read and verbally respond to the short response questions. If time, we will view some ideas about book banning--of which, we had banned book week a week ago. We will look at the top books banned in the last few years. .

Homework: Work on revising HOMS essay. Finish Independent Reading assignment. 

Wednesday: 

Pick up Fahrenheit 451. Students will deliver Independent Reading presentations. 

Homework: Work on revising HOMS essay.

Thursday: 

We will begin reading Fahrenheit 451. Students will begin annotating the text, every other page.

Homework: Students should finish revising and highlighting their essay by tomorrow and reupload to Canvas. 

Friday:

Students will continue reading from Fahrenheit. We will discuss literacy laws in U.S. history. We will discuss the symbolism of the salamander in Part 1 of the book.

Homework: Students will read through page 37 and annotate the pages in Fahrenheit.

Monday: 

We will spend 20 minutes in the library finding a book for your next Independent Reading book. We will return to the class and finish our discussion of the reading from Fahrenheit 451

Homework: Students will read through page 49 and annotate the pages in Fahrenheit.

Tuesday: 

SSR. Students will discuss the banning of books from the Fahrenheit 451 novel and the paradox of Captain Beatty. Before our discussion, students will share their questions with their table that they have about what is happening in the novel. We will address them during discussion. I will have students share some of their annotations. .

Homework: Students will read through page 65 in the PDF of Fahrenheit. Annotate every other page. You should have about 32 or 33 by now

Wednesday: 

SSR. Students will discuss posing critical thinking questions: click HERE for ideas. We will go over the Independent Reading assignments due next week on Wednesday. Students may choose to a paper or a presentation on their book.  Read "The Pedestrian"--what are the views in context of Fahrenheit? Who is this in the novel? 

Homework: Students will read through page 86 in the PDF of Fahrenheit. Annotate every other page. You should have about 43 by now.

Thursday: 

SSR. Students will share their critical thinking questions at their table. They will choose two of the best questions and be ready to explain why. We will work with answering some of these questions as we discuss the reading from last night.  Students will develop two more questions and begin noting key elements of Bradbury's argument and his use of symbolism in the text.

Homework: Students will read through page 115 in Fahrenheit 451. Annotate every other page. You should have about 57 by now. 

Friday:

Students will discuss the reading, complete a Kahoot, and be introduced to vocabulary.com.

Homework: Students will read through page 158 in the PDF of Fahrenheit. Students should work on vocabulary.com, focusing on Part I of Fahrenheit.

SSR. Students will discuss the end of the novel and key aspects of Bradbury's argument and philosophy. We will go over the essay prompt and begin gathering key pieces of evidence and good reasons to support our thesis statement. Here is a link to the student generated prompts: click HERE

Tuesday: 

SSR. Students will read "The Pedestrian" on Commonlit.org and answer the questions related to the chapter. They can spend the remaining time on vocabulary.com or working on annotations. Mrs. V. will check them tomorrow. .

Homework: Pick a prompt on which to focus your essay. Start brainstorming some ideas. 

Wednesday: 

SSR. Students will start drafting their introductory paragraph and first body paragraph of their essay, proofreading as they develop. 

Homework: Students should have 3 paragraphs completed for the Fahrenheit essay: intro and 2 body paragraphs. Start Part II on vocabulary.com for Fahrenheit.

Thursday: 

SSR. Students will have the period to continue working on their essay--the essay is due tomorrow--uploaded to Canvas. We will conduct a peer edit tomorrow.

Homework: Finish Fahrenheit 451 essay and upload to Canvas. Finish vocabulary.com for Part I of Fahrenheit. 

Friday:

Students will conduct a Peer Edit for their Fahrenheit essay.

Homework: Students should begin revising and highlighting changes on their final draft, which is due on Thursday.

Monday: 

SSR. Students will begin discussing the TKAM Research project and presentation. Students will get placed in groups of no more than 4 students. They will research a topic related to To Kill a Mockingbird in preparation for the reading of the novel. 

Homework: Students will work on Fahrenheit essay. Revision due on Friday. Finish Part II of vocabulary.com.

Tuesday: 

SSR. Students will continue research in groups. Students will be required to use Gale Resource from the library database as at least one of the sources. They should have at least two total sources they use by the end of the period with at least one page of notes.   .

Homework: Continue working on Fahrenheit 451 essay revision--due Friday. 

Wednesday: 

SSR. Students will have their last day to research, but they will also begin organizing their information on the Google Slides. Any topics made for the slides will be topics for their note cards. We will go over note card format. 

Homework: Students should have note cards with them in class on Thursday.

Thursday: 

SSR. Students will complete Google Slides as a group and develop their note cards.

Homework: Finish Fahrenheit 451 essay and upload to Canvas.  

Friday:

Students will return Fahrenheit and pick up To Kill a Mockingbird.

Homework: Students should finalize their work for the TKAM presentations and practice, practice, practice.

SSR. Pick up TKAM from the library. Finalize TKAM Research presentation, including note cards, bibliography, and Google Slides. Read from TKAM. Take notes on Boo Radley in Chapter 1. Fill out skeleton outline for Chapter 1. 

Homework: Students will practice delivery of Research project. 

Tuesday: 

SSR. Students will deliver their TKAM Research project and presentation. Their peers will take notes on the content of presentations and evaluations of oral presentation skills.   .

Homework: Read Chapters 2 & 3 of TKAM. 

Wednesday: 

SSR. Students will continue delivering their TKAM Research Project. Peers should continue taking notes on presentations.  

Homework: Read Chapters 4 & 5 of TKAM.

Thursday: 

SSR. Finish TKAM Research presentations. Peers will turn in their notes on the presentations. We will return to TKAM and fill out the skeleton outline for Chapters 1-5. We will discuss Scout as a main character and what insight she hold about her community. We will discuss what the school chapters suggest about education, and what the conversation between Scout and Miss Maudie suggest about religion in a small town.

Homework: Students will read Chapter 6 in TKAM.  

Friday:

Students will discuss Chapter 6, and we will begin reading Chapter 7. We will discuss the argument that Harper Lee is making about children and their misunderstanding of the world. We will discuss the mindset of the white community about the black community and why this generates the issues later in the story and how this connects to society today. We will also take a look at a clip from Ta-Nehisi Coates about the power struggle, specifically in the use of words.

Homework: Students will read 8, 9, 11, & 12 during the Thanksgiving Break. We will skip Chapters 13-16. You may read these if you wish.


Week of 11-28-22 through 12-2-22

Monday: 

SSR. Students will play a Kahoot review for Chapters Part I of TKAM. Students will briefly discuss chapters from reading over break. We will then view and discuss the clip by Ta-Nehisi Coates. We will then briefly discuss the chapters we are skipping: 13-16. A quiz on the chapters read and discussed will be on Wednesday.

Homework: Students should finish skeleton outlines for Chapters 1-11 and work on reading their Independent Reading book. 

Tuesday: 

SSR. View and discuss film clip from Cinderella Man. Discuss the implications of the law and the community from the previous chapters before reading the first chapter of the trial: chapter 17.   .

Homework: Finish reading Chapter 17 & read 18 in TKAM. Read Independent Reading book.

Wednesday: 

Briefly discuss the readings from last night. Students will take a quiz on TKAM Chapters 1-11.

Thursday: 

SSR. Students will read Chapters 19 & 20 along with the audio track (click on Chapter number for audio for each chapter in TKAM--Chapter 19 & Chapter 20).

SSR. Play Kahoot for Chapters 12-21. Go over Chapters 22-25 and fill out Skeleton Outline. Look at the courtroom rhetoric with Atticus in his closing argument.

Homework: Students should finish reading Chapter 26 and read 27. 

Tuesday: 

SSR. Discuss readings from last night’s homework. Begin reading Chapter 28 of TKAM. Take notes on key elements of the scene in preparation for the mock trial on the final, and for the essay on TKAM.   .

Homework: Students will read their Independent Reading book.

Wednesday: 

SSR. Finish reading TKAM chapters and taking notes on key elements of the crime scene. Begin discussing the mock trial: the legal claims and evidence to be discussed. Students will work both sides of the argument over the next two days.  

Homework: Develop at least 4 good reasons on both sides of the argument. Note evidence for each reason. Place on a Google Doc.

Thursday: 

Students will take their Chapters 12-21 Reading Quiz, including vocabulary. 

Homework: Try to finish Independent Reading book.   

Friday:

Continue gathering evidence by including witnesses. What would each witness bring to the case. Find evidence of what each character said--note on Google Docs. 

Homework: Students will pose questions for the following characters for both prosecution and defense: Scout, Jem, Boo Radley, Atticus, Heck Tate, Dr. Reynolds, Mayella Ewell, Miss Stephanie Crawford.

Finalize details for the Mock Trial. Prep your witnesses with their questions. Practice delivery of statements. Prepare cross-examination questions for opposing counsel.
